Text Messages at a Naturalization Ceremony
Applicant: I have an envelope of materials, including the program for today's ceremony, but there is not enough light to read!
Guest: Play games on the iPhone? Just don't register to vote, the emcee will take you off the list.
Applicant: 11am! We are going to be here all day.
Guest: It's the final test. They want to make sure you really want this.
Applicant: This is really bad. Have you noticed all
Applicant: Oops! Hit the send button instead of the backspace button. Anyway, have you noticed all the weird people? Do I have to wave my flag? You can leave
Application: if you want and come back to take me to the airport.
Guest: Hahaha I HAVE noticed! And the '"fashionable" clothes they've just got to wear to this. Ugh! I figure if I leave now, I can hit Fashion Show and CC Grill before you're done.
Applicant: This is worse than church.
Guest: At least in church there is music and enough light to balance my checkbook.
Applicant: Exactly. Did you get the programme? If so, who is the guest speaker? Too dark to read my programme.
Guest: Keynotes are [Useless Assistant to the Assistant of some Local Administrative Assistant to a Local Official x 2]....
Applicant: Fabulous, they will make it well worth the wait. 93 countries. Help! There must be several citizens from "Mission Impossible" countries.
Guest: Wouldn't it be 94? I thought Czechoslovakia was now the Czech Republic and Slovakia? Hmmmm....
Applicant: Pay attention to the movie.
Applicant: I can't wait until they discuss/list the 13 original states.
Guest: You should raise your hand..... Is this in a loop?
Applicant: What will I do with freedom! Go to Nieman Marcus, of course!

Look at me (differently!)
This was a response I write to a community post about feeling angry when the dating world treats you differently as an obese person versus a thinner person.
* * * * *
Some disclaimers:
-- This is far from scientific
-- This is not about the person, but PARTS of their personality
-- There are a lot of generalizations (i.e. what and who is attractive), but I didn't want to make this too long with caveats every third sentence. You get the idea.
-- This is NOT a judgment. I have a lot of overwight, obese, fat, etc. friends and amazing people in my life. This is about MY decision(s) and what *I* need to do with MY life.
There was an interesting quote on an episode of House (see, I told you it wasn't scientific) wherein Dr. House states (paraphrasing, can't find the exact quote): "You can't be with him. 9s go with 9s, 4s go with 4s. He's at best a 6, and you're an 11."
Generally speaking, one can see this in our society. We're attracted to pretty people, fit people, because it means (a) they're nice to look at and, more important, (b) it implies health necessary for propogation of the species. Sure, there are breaks from that standard, but it's pretty fitting (no pun intended), nonetheless.

Going Under the Knife. Who Do I Tell?
When I made the decision to have weight loss surgery (WLS), I told no one. Not exactly the smartest move when going forward with something as life-changing as this is. This type of commitment requires a certain level of support that is only found when you are open, honest, and reach out to the people most important in your life.
My immediate family is comprised of some of the least supportive people on the planet. Since my father died a year and a half ago, I have been excluded even more than usual because I don't subscribe to the victim/snobbish attitudes (nice combination, eh?) that they carry. I think for myself, I like to do the things I say I will do, I like to try new things, and I don't have patience for bullshit.
